“I found a huge number of extraordinarily beautiful theorems”

P. Fermat, 1601-1665

Theorem of Pythagoras is certainly one of the most significant results of the whole organization. Although this theorem takes its name from the Greek mathematician, its demonstration dates back to Babylonians of the time of Hammurabi, more than a thousand years before Pythagoras.

Even the Egyptians they knew him and used him to build straight corners by knotting 3, 4 and 5 long ropes. The Hindu they indicated it by the name of the chair of the little bride, Persians with the figure of the married woman; I Greeks They called him. Theorem of the marite.

The Pythagorean theorem and its demonstrations appear on different continents, cultures and centuries (in 1940 Loomis published The Pythagorean Proposition which contains 370 different demonstrations of the Pythagorean theorem).

One of the first and most beautiful demonstrations is that of Euclide in the Elements.
