An Inspiring Partnership Between School and Museum

After the Visit to the Mateureka Museum and its exhibition “Hypatia, altitude alessandrina”, the students of class 4 C full-time of the I.C.S. “Marianna Dionigi” of Lanuvio (Rome) have portrayed various characters, of various eras, derived from the study of the various civilizations in history, from geographical or scientific arguments. Great opportunities for deepening were also offered by the Visit to the exhibition “Numeri from 0 to ∞” – Rome, from the reading of books by writer Anna Cerasoli, from the catalog of the Mateureka, Museum of Mathematics and Calculation Mateureka – Pennabilli, from the laboratories on the edges of Nepero and Genaille (in working phase) for the resolution of multiplications and divisions.

The work represents a multidisciplinary activity, which has connected different disciplines: history, philosophers, scholars, mathematics, astronomers, literary scholars of past civilizations. Most modern people or our age: navigators, cartographers, scientists, musicians, met thanks to reading books or catalogs of topics and the various exhibitions that the pupils visited.

Also the exhibition of important painters has helped to give a value to the drawing. The whole thing was born, however, in knowing that in distant times a woman learned Hypatia of Alexandria was appreciated as a man. On this occasion, the teachers read out of Ronchey's book Hypatia. Special thanks to the master curators of the project: Ciafrei Romina and Corazza Lucia.
