The Liceo “Torricelli” by Faenza, together with the Table of Science and the Science Gym of the Municipality of Faenza, in collaboration with various bodies and institutions, including Department of Mathematics of the University of Modena, the Mathematic Machine Association of Modena, the Mateureka, Museum of Mathematics and Calculation of Pennabilli, organizes, from March 6 to 28, 2010, an exhibition entitled “La workshop topics”.

It is aimed, in addition to the general public, to students of primary and secondary schools of first and second grade.

The exhibition, which will be hosted in the premises of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni di Faenza, includes several sections:

  1. Exhibition of mathematical machines, of high educational, historical and cultural value, realized by the Association of mathematical machines of Modena.
  2. Exhibition of mathematical machines built for the project “Matebilandia, mathematical paths in the park of Mirabilandia: looking for geometric curves in the attractions of the park”, realized with some classes of the Liceo “Torricelli”.
  3. History of mathematical calculation, with the exposure of machines for calculation, provided by the Mateureka, Museum of Mathematics and Calculation of Pennabilli.
  4. Mathematical games.
  5. The strain through the images: photographic exhibition linked to the contest (i.e. original photographs with mathematical content, referring to real life and natural phenomena with respect to reprocessing).
  6. Mathematical objects produced by the schools for the competition (mathematic machines, exhibits, activate instruments, devices for the study of geometry and algebra,...)

During the opening period of the exhibition there are initiatives aimed at students and audiences in general, such as dissemination conferences, screening of films with mathematical background, teaching laboratories for students (computer technologies, soap bubbles, origami, dots, etc.).

It is banned competition divided into two categories: the first, “Local local“, is addressed to primary and secondary school students of the first and second grade of the Faenza School District, the province of Ravenna, the school districts of Forlì and Imola, the second, “outside province” is enlarged to secondary schools of second degree of all Italy. The contest includes the production of mathematical objects or photographs of natural objects with mathematical content. Participation modes and prizes are specified in the appropriate notice.
